The MAP sensor determines the intake manifold pressure or vacuum. It sends a voltage signal to the ECM which changes with the varying pressure or vacuum within the intake manifold. The ECM uses this signal to determine engine load and ensure a proper air/fuel ratio. The MAP sensor is commonly found in the intake manifold, throttle body or can be remote mounted under hood. Causes for replacement include check engine lamp illumination, engine hesitation, poor fuel economy, failed emissions tests, engine stalling and extended crank time.
