The bloated rivers and flooded storm sewers engulfed more than two-thirds of Spencer's homes, churches, and businesses, claiming the life of one out-of-town visitor. Many expressed gratefulness that the dark, murky flood water arrived during daylight rather than the blackness of night. This anthology, sponsored by Arts on Grand of Spencer, was written by residents, rescuers, business people, and volunteers, who recognized the urgency in preserving the historic details and personal accounts from that fateful day.
