Product Description
This model, which was created in 1944 during World War II, has been recreated in the United States, the birthplace of denim workwear. In 1942, the US government began restricting metal parts and details on workwear due to regulations on clothing. This was done to reduce the use of metal, fabric, and thread, and lasted until 1946. Items subject to these regulations had the letter "S" for "Simplified" placed before the lot number. In this waist overall, the back strap that was previously included has been omitted. Rivets and bartacks were also subject to restrictions, so the rivets on the coin pocket and crotch have been removed, and the hidden bartacks on the hip pockets have been changed to stitching. The pocket lining uses light-weight denim that was distributed by the US government, and the stitching replicates the rough stitch pitch and distorted stitching work due to a lack of experienced workers. There were various wartime models at the time, but Sugar Cane has assembled a silhouette based on the most distinctive details from the many vintage items it has collected, using the widest pattern.
The fabric used is Sugar Cane's original 13oz denim. While "neppy yarn" that creates knots through processing is now mainstream, in order to match the technology of the time, adjustments were made at the spinning stage, successfully leaving short cotton and scraps that are usually shaved off. This 7-ply uneven yarn produced by spinning is woven on a shuttle loom. The selvedge uses two colors, red and pink, at both ends. When dyeing the pure indigo warp yarn, it usually turns reddish when the concentration is increased, but by suppressing the redness and finishing it in a special dark color, the vintage color is reproduced.
