The Thibaults by Roger Martin du Gard (Rare 1968 Bantam Paperback Edition)

The Thibaults is a full-length novel by Roger Martin Dugar (1881-1958), a French author and Nobel laureate in literature. The youngest child of this family, Jacques Thibault, with his rebellious and indomitable spirit, seeks his destiny in the world around him and leaves the family. In interacting with his socialist ideas, he contrasts happiness and an ideal life with someone he loves.

This masterfully constructed portrait of personal and social disintegration -- and reformation -- can be compared in stature to Tolstoy's "War and Peace" and Dos Passos' "U.S.A. Trilogy." It is truly a lost masterpiece of Western literature.

With an Introduction by Albert Camus.
